Frequently Asked Questions
System Questions [+]
What browser do I need?
  • A large portion of the site can be viewed with older browsers.  However, it is recommended that the user upgrade to a more recent browser version.
  • The tutorials and lessons currently require later browsers.  The site provides complete functionality with Internet Explorer (version 7 and higher), and Apple Safari (version 3 and higher).
  • Other browsers might function well but are not used for testing at this time.
Do I need a sound card?
  • The answer is a qualified yes.  To realize the full benefit of the site, a sound card is required, however, some sections of the site do not require sound.  The phonics lessons and tutorials present sound to symbol associations and require sound.
Must I download and install any controls?
  • Several features of this site require either Microsoft® Silverlight or Adobe Flash player.  If you do not have these on your system, you will be prompted to download and install the product as needed.  Silverlight is a free download from Microsoft® and is available for multiple platforms and browsers.  Adobe Flash player is also a free download.
What kind of graphics do I need?
  • The site uses images as rewards and background for several activities.  Some of these images look best when viewed with the graphics set to high color mode (16 bit) or better.  Some degradation of the images will occur with lower color settings and might make the experience less fulfilling than the design intends.
  • A screen resolution of 1024x768 or better is recommended.  Some scrolling of the activities might be required for lower resolutions, making the activity less functional.  The user can alter the layout to match their preferences if their browser permits this behavior.  Please select options from the choices at the top-right area of the web page.  Smaller activity versions, such as mobile versions, will be considered if warranted by demand.
